In My Mailbox #41

In My Mailbox is hosted byΒ The Story Siren.

  • The Dead Girls’ Dance (The Morganville Vampires #2) by Rachel Caine | Goodreads
  • Midnight AlleyΒ (The Morganville Vampires #3) by Rachel Caine | Goodreads
  • Temeraire (Temeraire #1) by Naomi Novik | Goodreads
  • When God Was A Rabbit by Sarah Winman | Goodreads

Annoyingly the Royal Mail lived upto their usual reputation and after 3 weeks of waiting, the parcel I was waiting on (a couple from publishers) still hadn’t arrived. So I let the publishers know and the books were resent, and finally I can read the Morganville series! I really didn’t have much luck with books 2 and 3 so that brightened my day a little when they finally arrived and I started The Dead Girls’ Dance last night and it’s just as good as Glass Houses. You guys seriously should give these a go if you haven’t yet, they are very good.

The other two I found in the charity shop. Hadn’t bothered with When God Was A Rabbit the previous week so when it was still there on the Monday I picked it up and I squeed when I found Temeraire. Steampunk with dragons? *bounce* That was on my wishlist for a little while so I had to.

  • The Emerald Talisman (Talisman #1) by Brenda Pandos | Goodreads
  • The Soulkeepers (The Soulkeepers #1) by G.P. Ching | Goodreads
  • Legacies of Talimura: War of the Witch by Angel Haze & Slade Sewell | Goodreads

The first two were free from Smashwords, adding yet more to my ‘free ebooks I couldn’t resist’. And you can blame Karina for The Soulkeepers – I’m weak! Having heard good things about both I snapped them up and War of the Witch I won from the author’s Halloween giveaway.

Make sure you check out this week’s guest post from the wonderful K.C. Neal! She leaves us with an excerpt that should leave you craving more. I also have a review up for Pyxis with a giveaway at the end for a copy of the book. It is excellent so make sure you check it out. Also, my review and giveaway for Cicada by Belle Whittington is still going so don’t miss out, they both end this Wednesday.

What did you get this week?

  1. Ah, the Morganville Vamp series is supposed to be crazysauce good, but I just haven’t been able to find it at my local library. I’m hoping to get started on this series soon. But enjoy(:

    And happy reading, Hannah!

  2. Oh Hannah! The Temeraire books are SO good! I have the first five I think and they’re definitely worth reading. Hadn’t thought of them as steampunk before, but I guess they are!

Not sure about When God Was A Rabbit. I keep picking it up then putting it back down again.

    1. I discovered them when I was building up a steampunk wishlist πŸ™‚

Yeah I’m not sure either.. but eh, 50p.. or was it 25p? I dunno. But I can always swap it or whatever.

    1. Ha, me too to be honest but.. free and.. giveaway.. and 50p books and.. yeah been waiting on Morganville for weeks so now I can at least get through that series so not all that bad, right? πŸ˜›

    1. I know, they’re addictive aren’t they?! Been itching to get back to it all day but stuff to doo… adding urban fantasy books to my wishlist is important, okay?!

  3. I seriously need to read When God Was a Rabbit, I keep forgetting it. I can’t believe you had to wait such a long time to get them – but believe me, Royal Mail is still better than what we have in Hungary. (Plus, our postman is a lunatic who keeps mixing letters up and tends to lose them…)

Can’t wait to finish uni and move to the UK finally, we have no charity shops over here. :/ Duh.

Anyway, great books this week! I’ll definitely check them out on Goodreads.
Here’s my IMM post for this week.

    Happy reading!

  4. I’m going to wait til next year to start Morganville now. Either The Works will get their stock back in or I’ll find elsewhere. Didn’t really *need* them this weekend but you know πŸ˜‰

  5. Yay for freebies! πŸ˜‰ I’m so glad you’re giving The Soulkeepers a go πŸ™‚ Also, Temeraire looks really good. I love dragons and steampunk, so will be waiting for your review. Your charity shops must have some really good book choices, Hannah *wink* Enjoy your week!

    1. Haha, I wish. It’s actually mostly crap but it does help working there once a week and having access to upstairs! πŸ˜‰ Aside from the few you see here, there are hundreds of Jeffrey Archers, Bernard Cornwells, Lynda La Plante, James Patterson, Colin Dexter, Jackie Collins… the usual local charity shop fair! (or is that fayre? Faire? *shrug*)
And I’ll give anything a go if it appeals to me. Freebies definitely! My wishlist is getting full of recommendations from yourself as well. πŸ˜›

  6. Awesome books! I totally sympathise with the annoyance of Royal Mail. I’ve had two damaged letters this week – one of which was bookplates πŸ™ I must get reading the Morganville vamps.

My IMM is here if you’d like a look πŸ™‚

  7. Awesome IMM! I haven’t read the Morganville series, but I’ve heard great things about it. I don’t dare start it though because it has so many books. XD Hope you enjoy all your new books!

    1. They’re so quick and easy to read and should be easy to find in libraries, bargain book shops, swap sites if you’re worried about the cost! πŸ˜€

  8. Amazing books for you this week. I’m definitely thinking about giving the Morganville Vampires series a chance. Sounds really good. πŸ™‚

I hope you enjoy all of these! πŸ™‚
