Friday Blog Hops #10

First of all, apologies if I’m a little off this weekend. I’ve picked something up (most likely a small cold) and my head is swimming with headaches and light-headedness. I’m not madly ill just a tiny bit out of it. Hopefully I get a chance to hop a bit but I am sorry if I don’t manage to hop over to all of your blogs!

Follow my book blog Friday is hosted by Paranjunkee’s View & Alison Can Read.

Q. It’s that pesky magic book fairy again! She has another wish: What imaginary book world would you like to make a reality?

Um.. Something fantasy, magical. We’ll leave out A Song of Ice and Fire, Lord of the Rings, Mistborn, Kingkiller Chronicles.. Oh, I got it. It’s kind of obvious really isn’t it, and I know the second I start hopping this one will be everywhere: Harry Potter. I’ve always wanted to go to Hogwarts! Even before I knew it existed I wanted to go to a magic school where I could learn about my powers and how to shapeshift and have magical friends and maybe even enemies to defeat. I’d be sure to get my letter, don’t you think?

Q. Book Disappointments:
Have you ever come across a book you were so stoked to read, but it failed miserably in your eyes?

Oh all the time.

The Iron Witch would be the most recent. I’d heard such great things about it and when I finally bought a copy and read it I was so disappointed. The writing was bland, the characters were flat, there was no real emotion.. it wasn’t terrible, but I was certainly disappointed.

The first Sookie book. I can’t remember its name, there are so many “dead” titles, but I adore True Blood, and I usually prefer the books to the movie/tv show and so I went out and bought the boxset and I read the first one and ugh I didn’t like it much. It felt kinda trashy. I did read the next couple though and thankfully really enjoyed the third one so no worries in the end, but the first one disappointed me.

New Moon because I had high hopes for Twilight. I enjoyed the first movie and the first book and I was looking forward to seeing where it was going and then the book was miserable and a ridiculous love triangle was put in, which was entirely pointless because Bella went for the first guy anyway.. every time, and the series just got worse and worse.

Hi to new (and old) followers from the various hops! I kindly ask you to please not post comments with more than one link (one is fine, I get that). Your blog url should be linked up to the name you comment with anyway and I do do my best to stop by everybody’s blogs and comment/follow back. If you post 2 or more links in your comments, you’ll be picked up by my spam filter and it’s a pain for me so please please bear this in mind. Depending on your comment and how many times you’ve done it in the past, there’s a chance I might not approve the comment because I have asked enough times by now, it’s unnecessary. This is networking not advertising.

And while you’re here, if you like fantasy, take a look at my epic fantasy giveaway! It’s ending tomorrow (I miscalculated a few things so I had to extend it for a week) so this will be your last chance, please spread the word!
