Ingame Relationships

@Warcraft on Twitter grabbed my attention this morning:

#WoW players in love got married and the bride wore the same wedding dress in-game and in real life

At first glance it doesn’t sound like such an interesting story, these things happen all the time. Though of course my curiosity got the better of me and I had to click the link provided to have a look, the dress is really pretty and it’s a lovely story. I’d post the image here but that’s a little unfair, so take a look here.

It’s not the only relationship I’ve seen develop from this game, as I said these things happen all the time. My own relationship started in my priest’s first raiding guild, we got talking and realised that we just clicked. We went through an arduous long distance relationship, though nothing compared to some I have seen, it was a 7 hour train journey for us. Eventually we moved in together and we’ve been together for little over 2 years now. I’ve seen several friends ingame hook up with people they play with, and I’ve heard plenty of stories to make you go ‘aww’.

When I first started playing WoW, I heard of ingame weddings and people forming relationships, and in all honesty I did think they were idiots. How on Earth can you know you love somebody until you meet? Well, I was wrong, though I still find online weddings to freak me out a little, I understand them on RP servers. It just goes to show that the internet isn’t completely full of crazy axe murderers ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. An in-game wedding to match an out of game wedding actually sounds like a good idea. Since I assume most guildies would want to be at the wedding but wouldn’t be able to travel to wherever the wedding is taking place, a virtual ceremony can give them a chance to feel included.

You would need guildies who don’t find that sort of thing cheesy though.

    1. That’s a good point actually. Though if that were the case at my own, I’d hope that them being invited whether they could make it or not would be enough, I literally couldn’t bring myself to do an ingame wedding. I’d feel silly, and waiting for the trolls to turn up (and not the pointy nosed kind). Sometimes the gankers.

As much as I’m uncomfortable with them personally, there are much weirder things in the world that I’m ok with.

  2. Haha I to find in game weddings a little bit freaky. And really even if I was on a RP server and me and my guy got married I can’t see my Belf married to his Orc.

    1. Haha yeah.. My bf plays female characters, that could be a bit odd :p

I just go with “each to their own” and carry on whining about PvP and elitists ๐Ÿ˜€ Works for me anywayz.

  3. Yeah, I used to feel the same about that sort of thing, that it could never happen successfully etc. Boy was I wrong, I myself am on this same journey of love in WoW. My story is still being written so I don’t want to spoil the ending (I don’t even know yet) but, I couldn’t imagine being MORE in love than this, and we haven’t met yet either ๐Ÿ˜› Glad to hear you found yourself a strong relationship Jaedia ๐Ÿ˜€ Best of luck to you and yours. Keep up the great writing.

    1. You sound a lot like a friend of mine actually ๐Ÿ˜‰

But yeah, that’s how our relationship started too ๐Ÿ™‚ I hope yours continues on the same way ours did! Thanks.
